Here at the The Twinning of the Cities of Liverpool and Shanghai website we are keen to promote the beneficial effects of cultural and economic exchange as is enabled by such twinning schemes as the one that joins Liverpool and Shanghai.

Projects not selected can still go ahead during the Biennial, but they would not be presented within the festival programme, and would not be eligible to use the Liverpool Biennial /Independents logo.

The two cities have undergone programmes of exchange involving businesses, students, and cultural amenities. The outcome is that over the years in which the two cities have been twinned there has been a greater promotion of the city of Liverpool brand in Shanghai, to its citizens and businesses, and of course, vice versa in Liverpool.

With the support of both governments and private industry this partnership continues to show tremendous potential.
